ella has become OBSESSED with names. she knows her first and last name (although she refuses to believe her middle names actually belong to her). she knows that mama and dada are "name of wowena", and "name of wudi". all the dogs and cats have our family last name (of course they do, they're members of the family).
now she wants to know everybody's name. she asks to know the names of people we pass on the street--flowers we see in stores--and every single cow, star, bee, or other being in every book. rudi and i have been having a blast naming things--"oh, that's bernadette." "that one is called rodney". "hmmm, i think his mama said his name is samson."
when i get tired, the names are more creative: "that one is name of calico". "that's blue wing". "her name of headstrong and her brother name of heartfelt".
now, ella has a favorite doggy name: griffis. she made it up herself. so one day, when a new doggy wiggles its way into our hearts--and thus, our home--its name, no matter what gender it is, will be griffis.
